Support for NAIDOC Week celebrations
JULY 12, 2018: The Liberal National Government’s support for the celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture has continued through funding for NAIDOC Week celebrations being held in the region this week.Nine organisations across the electorate of Dawson have benefitted from the Liberal National Government’s 2018 NAIDOC Week grants round.The National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week is an annual celebration of the histories, rich cultures, outstanding achievements and ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.I’m thrilled to be able to support local community organisations hold NAIDOC Week events, including street parades and family fun days, art exhibitions, sports days and school activities.All in all, $19,160 has been provided.
- Mackay NAIDOC Incorporated - Street Parade and Family Day - $6000
- George Street Neighbourhood Centre - Family Fun Day - $800
- Proserpine Indigenous Reference Group – Range of activities - $3,500
- Girudala – Street Parade and Family Fun Day - $3,000
- Burdekin NAIDOC Sports Community Day – $860
- Burdekin NAIDOC Elder's Breakfast – $1500
- Burdekin Library Because of Her, we can! Gallery exhibition – $2500
- William Ross High School – $500
- Wulguru State School – $500
