New collector coins honour Australian troops

TO MARK the 100th anniversary of two key victories during the First World War, the Royal Australian Mint has released commemorative coins recognising the battles of Villers-Bretonneux and Amiens on the Western Front. The Villers-Bretonneux and Amiens 50 cent collector coins pay tribute to the soldiers who fought in these battles and are a unique symbol of their service and achievement.The Battle of Villers-Bretonneux saw the Australian troops’ unconventional night attack liberate the town of Villers-Bretonneux. In the Battle of Amiens, Allied troops broke through German lines and gained more than 24 km of occupied territory. Both battles were important actions for Australia during the First World War.One hundred years ago Australian soldiers fought in the Battles of Villers-Bretonneux and Amiens, and through courage, resourcefulness and sacrifice, achieved crucial victories in the First World War. These commemorative coins from the Royal Australian Mint are a tribute to the service and achievements of Australian troops in these battles.
