Respite delivered at Mackay’s new David and Irie Dalrymple Home

Residents of Mackay who are living with a disability have access to new modern respite services following the completion of a purpose-built five-bedroom house which was officially opened today.The ‘David and Irie Dalrymple Home’ will make life easier by providing respite services for carers and families, enabling individuals to reside in assisted living for up to three months at a time.There is an unmet demand for respite services in Mackay, and these five extra beds are vitally needed.This new house is purpose-built with accessible bathrooms and kitchen, and will bring comfort to residents with special needs.

Children given access to life-changing CF drug

7 FEBRUARY 2017: From today, children aged two to five will have immediate and free access to Kalydeco® (ivacaftor) – a life-changing drug that addresses the causes of cystic fibrosis rather than just the symptoms. Previously, only children six years of age and older with the G551D or other class III gating mutations had subsidised access to Kalydeco.

NQ access to NDIS on the way

18 MARCH 2016: North Queenslanders living with disability will have access to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) from November 1. The NDIS will enable participants in Mackay, the Whitsundays, and Isaac region to get lifelong individual support packages, with the right to select the support and services that are right for them. It’s one of the largest social policy reforms in Australia’s history.
