Why is this occurring?
We have seen a global decline of religious tolerance in recent years, alongside a rise of authoritarian regimes with continued violent rhetoric and ideology, causing repression in North Korea, Communist China, and the Islamic world.
The COVID-19 pandemic has also ushered in an era of increased persecution, where government control has led to harsher conditions for people of faith. The pandemic has been used as an excuse to usher in more stringent forms of control, and the use of national security legislation has been used to control and restrict religious practices.
Violent ideological extremism continues, and sadly over Easter, Christians in Indonesia were killed for simply attending church on Good Friday.
This campaign is a call for us to join together, not only to raise awareness about the persecution of Christians around the globe, but also to unify and take action, ensuring that we are able to live in a world where all people can practice their faith without fear or persecution.
You do not need to be a Christian to support this movement.
What connects us is our common humanity, tolerance and seeking a world grounded in core Christian values such as peace, compassion and freedom.
