Threat to Home Builder boost from Labor
Hundreds of contracts for home buyers wanting to take advantage of the Morrison Liberal National Government’s Home Builder scheme are under threat due to the inability of the Queensland Labor Government to execute the program.
I’ve spoken to a number of builders, banks and brokers who are telling me that there are hundreds of contracts that will fall over firstly because of the delays in Queensland signing up to Home Builder, and then due to how Queensland delivers the program.
Other states have managed to operate far more efficiently.
Today I’m calling on the Labor Member for Mackay, Labor’s assistant treasurer, to sort this out so that people who have got their hopes up about home ownership aren’t left bitterly disappointed.
The Queensland Labor Government was the last of the states to sign up to the program initially, so that delayed things for the first month.
And now we have banks, builders and the home buyers being let down by a slow and inept Labor government who can’t ensure that the $25,000 grant from the Federal Government is factored into their home loans.
The question all of these people want answered is ‘why can’t Queensland operate the Home Builder boost in the same way that they operate their first home-owner grant?’
If Queensland Labor could fix these requirements, we could get on with the economy boost that builders want.
And provide so many home buyers with their dream of breaking out of the rent cycle and owning their own home.
This is not just an issue in Mackay, but all across the state.
The Queensland Labor Government need to get their act together. Contracts need to be signed and finance approved by December 31. The issue is now critical and the fear is builders and buyers will run out of time to make this happen.
