Pindi Pindi welcomes library upgrade

Students of Pindi Pindi State School and their wider community will head into 2021 taking full advantage of a refurbished library thanks to a community grant from the Morrison Liberal National Government.

I recently took a tour to see the upgrade firsthand, made possible through the Local Schools Community Fund.

I think we all appreciate the importance of instilling a love of books and reading in our children, and Pindi Pindi State School has now gone from relying on a mobile service for one hour, once a fortnight, to having an operational library.

A successful grant application of $10,500 through the Local Schools Community Fund has meant that Pindi Pindi has been able to purchase 12 new bookshelves, two large stem tables for Robotics kits, four small height adjustable tables for all students to utilise, an ottoman to lounge and read on, an Oliver digital library cataloguing system and a computer.

Pindi Pindi School Principal Anna Bradley said they were thrilled to received funding.

“This grant has made a huge difference to our school. It has allowed us to digitalise our cataloguing system, upgrade our 30-year-old furniture and offer a state-of-the-art Robotics program at the school. It helps our small school stand out in our community”.

I was very supportive of funding under the Local Schools Community Fund going to our smaller regional schools, who just don’t have the population base to undertake a huge amount of fundraising to provide all kinds of things that our schools are in need of.

14 schools in the Dawson electorate have received funding under the Local Schools Community Fund to provide a range of facilities and services for their students, ranging from purchasing musical instruments and creating libraries through to upgrading playgrounds and providing shade.
