Musical note for Cannonvale kids thanks to $18,000 investment in strings programme

A succesful application for funding under the Morrison Liberal National Government’s Local Schools Community Fund was music to the ears of Cannonvale state school kids, parents and teachers.

I visited the school this week to congratulate them on receiving funding of $18,140 which has enabled them to add strings to their instrumental programme.

There are about 800 current and future students of the Cannonvale State School who will potentially benefit from access to stringed instruments, storage, sheet music and other incidentals thanks to this successful Local Schools Community Fund application.

Previously only a limited number of students had access to stringed instrument lessons, and these were paid for by parents.

This grant will give all students access to lessons, and what a wonderful gift that is for any young person.

I was very pleased to see this funding application get the tick of approval from our committee of experienced former teachers, as I was very supportive of funding going to our smaller regional schools, who just don’t have the population base to undertake a huge amount of fundraising to provide all kinds of things that our schools are in need of.

A Dawson electorate schools committee met to review and select finalists for the grant program.

14 schools in the Dawson electorate have received funding under the Local Schools Community Fund and will be providing a range of facilities and services for their students, ranging from purchasing musical instruments and creating libraries through to upgrading playgrounds and providing shade.
