Work starts on Bruce Highway overtaking lanes
AUGUST 15, 2016: Work is underway on two overtaking lanes on the Bruce Highway between Proserpine and Bowen to boost safety for all road users on this key transport route. The Bruce Highway between Proserpine and Bowen services major tourism areas and is a very busy stretch of road. The new overtaking lanes near Dingo Creek and Emu Creek will increase capacity, allowing motorists to safely overtake trucks, buses and vehicles towing caravans. This will help reduce the number of risky manoeuvres motorists sometimes make to overtake these vehicles.Doval Constructions have been engaged to deliver the works, which were brought forward as part of the Accelerated Works Program. The works will make the state-controlled network safer sooner and will also increase efficiency of travel along a major transport and tourist route. An average of 21 jobs will be supported over the life of the project.Work on the $7 million federally funded project is due to be completed in April 2017, weather permitting.
