Right to clear land assured
ANY suggestion that the Federal Government will intervene and ban farmers from tree clearing is just utter nonsense. There have been media reports which gave the impression that Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg would “stop Queensland farmers clearing land in an effort to protect the Great Barrier Reef”.The Liberal National Coalition Government will not be stepping in and banning farmers from undertaking tree clearing on their own land.Any media reports which claim we will are overblown nonsense.
Boosting Great Barrier Reef protection
On Oceans Day at the Paris climate summit, a commitment of $58 million in funding from the Reef Trust spearheaded a suite of measures by the Liberal National Government to continue to build the health and resilience of the iconic Great Barrier Reef. This new commitment of $58 million between 2015 and 2019 brings the total Australian Government’s investment through the Reef Trust to $91.3 million. This third phase of investment will support farmers and land owners to improve their land management practices and reduce the runoff of key Reef pollutants – into the Great Barrier Reef catchment and boost the resilience of the reef.We are working with farmers, graziers and cane growers to improve their efficiency and to help the reef.
WWF dredges up more lies
WORLD Wildlife Fund (WWF) were called out during a hearing for the Register of Environmental Organisations in Canberra for using an image of dredging in Boston Harbor to create false impressions about the Abbot Point port expansion in North Queensland.I challenged WWF about an image used by the Fight For The Reef campaign (which is run by WWF in conjunction with the Australian Marine Conservation Society) in a social media promotion soliciting donations to their cause. The original photo could be found here on istockphoto*, run by Getty Images, where it is described as: “A dredge is making a part of Boston Harbor deeper so that it can handle different ships and boats. A big scoop pulling water a (sic) debris from the bottom clearing a way for progress.”
Reef is in recovery mode
THE health of the Great Barrier Reef is improving, and actions by the Liberal National Government should be given some of the credit.A report by the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) which is yet to be released showed that the reef was healthier in 2013-14 than in the previous year. This report card shows the Reef is recovering and getting healthier, and this shows that the Abbott government’s intervention measures are working.
Truth triumphs on state of reef
AN extreme green campaign of lies and misinformation on the state of the Great Barrier Reef claimed another high-profile scalp this week, I'm pleased to see that the truth had triumphed.A lot of people have been duped by this extreme green campaign which is loaded with lies, so it’s not surprising that Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson has fallen victim to this highly damaging deluge of misinformation. He fell for the fiction these green eco-traitors like to peddle, and has admitted that he’d been ill-informed.
