State needs to act on Adani projects

A MEDIA report that the Indian mining giant Adani has suspended all engineering work on its multi-billion dollar mine, rail and port project in the Galilee Basin highlights the need for the State Labor Government to get all environmental processes finalised as soon as possible. The online Australian newspaper The Guardian reported today that Adani has halted engineering work on projects around the Carmichael Mine project which were being undertaken by four major engineering contractors. However the Guardian has an anti-mining agenda and their reports are not reliable.A spokesperson for Adani has confirmed to me that they were not pulling out of the massive project. However they also stated they have lost appetite for any other substantial delays to their project. They’ve been through two approval processes and they are onto the third, and understandably they are at the end of their tether.I don’t want to see the hundreds of jobs for Bowen and thousands of jobs for North Queensland walk out the door with Adani. The State Government needs to get their approvals sorted in a matter of weeks, it cannot be months.I highlighted these concerns during a speech in Parliament today.
