Roadworks bring jobs to region
JANUARY 19, 2016: WORK started today on construction of two new overtaking lanes on the Bruce Highway between Proserpine and Mackay, bringing more jobs to the region and boosting the local economy. The project will result in a southbound overtaking lane at Kitty Creek, 10km north of Kuttabul, and a northbound overtaking lane at Carey’s Creek, 7km south of Calen. The Liberal National Government’s commitment to fully fund these works will improve safety and efficiency on this stretch of the Bruce Highway – all part of the Government’s 10 year commitment to the Bruce Highway.Upgrades like these not only increase capacity, but also allow motorists to safely overtake slower moving vehicles like trucks, buses and vehicles towing caravans. The start of works is good news for all motorists using this section of the highway. This is a busy section of the Bruce, not only for those of us who live here but also for the many tourists who travel the coast and those operating heavy vehicles carrying freight. It amounts to thousands of vehicles every day. These new overtaking lanes between Mackay and Calen are expected to be finished by the middle of the year, and I know every single motorist will appreciate them. They not only make travelling the highway safer, they also provide commercial vehicle operators with the efficiency gains they need to compete in a very competitive market place. For more information on the Bruce Highway upgrade visit: http://investment.infrastructure.gov.au/funding/projects/brucehighway.aspx
