Region to supply workers & services for Adani

APRIL 7, 2016: THE announcement today from Adani that Mackay, Bowen, Townsville and Rockhampton will all play key roles in providing manpower and services for their Carmichael Coal Mine Project will provide the region with a huge confidence boostThis is the news that everyone has been waiting to hear – workers and businesses in Mackay and Bowen, as well as those in Townsville and Rockhampton – will all benefit from the Carmichael Mine Project as we have the people, the logistics and the mining services hubs to service this project. This was announced by Downer Chief Operating Officer from Open Cut East Kurt Baumgart at a Bowen Basin Mining Club lunch which was attended by more than 350 people, and his comments were echoed by Adani CEO Jeyakumar Janakaraj.Downer have been contracted by Adani to run the mine.Mr Janakaraj said the granting of mining leases provided more certainty for the company to re-commence discussions with contractors and stakeholders about the location of their “people, logistics and mining services hubs”.He has stated and I quote “that Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton and Bowen will all play key roles in supporting and delivering these projects, which are vital for the region”.Adani have faced an unprecedented level of attack from extreme green groups with an anti-coal agenda, as well as constant negativity about their intentions and credentials.Today Adani have proved the naysayers wrong, and stated that their workforce and suppliers will not only be overwhelmingly Queensland based, but they will look to ensure that local workforces and suppliers will have the opportunity to benefit.”Adani are now working towards an estimated 2017 commencement date, pending the conclusion of two court cases and the provision of further state government approvals.
