Our First World War effort

APRIL 20, 2015: I had the pleasure of visiting the 100 Years of ANZAC Display today, which was partly funded by an Anzac Centenary Local Grant to the Mackay RSL Sub Branch. The display is a credit to all involved and I would encourage the residents of Mackay to take the time to view this impressive display of World War I memorabilia. It provides a wonderful insight into the region’s involvement in the Great War.So many families have contributed memorabilia and heirlooms, and it’s inspiring to see what small communities, like Mackay of 1914-18, were able to contribute to the war effort in terms of manpower and spirit. The 100 Years of ANZAC Display is a joint effort by the Mackay RSL Sub Branch, Mackay Regional Council and the Mackay and District Military Museum. The Mackay RSL sub branch received a grant of more than $5700, and part of this funding went towards the display. It’s open daily this week from 8am until 5.30pm and from 9am to 4pm on Anzac Day. A donation on entry is appreciated by organisers.
