Nippers to benefit from funding of shade sails

MARCH 17, 2016: TRAINING sessions for the Ayr Surf Life Saving Club nippers will get a whole lot cooler thanks to a funding grant of more than $11,000 under the Liberal National Government’s Stronger Communities Programme.I caught up with the group at the weekend to share the good news. The Nippers program is an excellent activity for our children, which also provides them with lifesaving skills which are of lasting benefits for those who live on the coast. With 82 members from a community of this size, it’s clear that this is a popular activity, and I was happy to recommend the Ayr Surf Lifesaving Club for funding of $11,315 so they can allow more kids to undertake their training under shade sails. In our climate such protection is vital.Ayr SLSC president Terry Lund said the club was thrilled with the news.“This funding will allow us to expand the number of Nippers who are participating in the programme, and improve the quality of the programme,” Mr Lund said.“We hold training sessions for four-hourly stretches during the months of September through to April, which are the hottest months of the year.“If we can build on our training programme, we also secure our ability to provide lifesaving services to the community of Ayr and surrounds.”
