New Export Control Bill a win for Ag sector
DECEMBER 11, 2017: FARMERS and exporters should find the costs and complexities of doing business will be reduced after a bill to reduce regulation hurdles passed the parliament.I welcome this move, which will make the rules for exporting simpler.Over the past 35 years since the Export Control Act 1982 commenced, the legislation governing agricultural exports has ballooned into a complex web of regulation—17 Acts and over 40 legislative instruments to meet the needs and challenges of the international trade environment. This bill will make the rules for exporting easier to understand and easier to comply with.Australia had a proud exporting record of providing high quality, clean and green produce that meets extremely high standards. The new bill will ensure our excellent global reputation remains firmly intact. The regulation changes have also been welcomed by the National Farmers’ Federation who welcomed the better business environment and the commitment to reducing red tape. For more information, visit www.agriculture.gov.au/export-legislation
