National gateway launched to help carers

DECEMBER 14, 2015: Carers in the region can find the services and support they need using a new carer gateway launched today.The Carer Gateway provides information on how to access services and support across Australia, and carers can call, visit the website or use the interactive service finder to locate their nearest carer support services.Up to now, carers have been searching for information through a number of pathways across the disability, community mental health and aged care sectors.Carer Gateway is a great place to start for carers who are looking for practical advice and resources to assist them in their caring role.This could include, for example, practical tips on how to find social and respite support.The Federal Government has committed $33.7 million, over four years, to deliver Carer Gateway as the first step of the Integrated Plan for Carer Support Services.The Assistant Minister for Social Services Alan Tudge launched the Carer Gateway today to make it easier for Australia’s 2.7 million unpaid carers to access information, support and local services.Carers can call 1800 422 737, Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, and speak to a helpful and professional Australian-based team who can provide information and links to local services.Go to www.carergateway.gov.au to find out more.
