Name needed for Yellow Gin Creek bridge

18 OCTOBER 2016: I put a call out this morning for North Queenslanders to help name a new bridge over Yellow Gin Creek on the Bruce Highway, south of Ayr.  The yet to be named two-lane, 120m bridge opened to traffic in June, replacing an old crossing that regularly flooded and caused road closures. The new bridge is two metres higher than the previous crossing, delivering a safer, more dependable Bruce Highway for around 3,000 motorists on this section of road each day. It was jointly funded with the Australian Government providing $36 million and the Queensland Government $9 million. Right now we are looking for a name for the bridge. Anyone can now nominate their own suggestions, especially those that highlight the area’s cultural significance.Nominations must be made by Friday 4 November 2016 and can be lodged via email, post, or phone. To make a submission, email a name and the reason you chose it (maximum 200 words) to: engagement.northern@tmr.qld.gov.au
