MP urges Labor to support job-creating bill
FEBRUARY 8, 2016: THE call to put an end to extreme green legal warfare against job-creating projects in Central and North Queensland was on the agenda in Canberra this morning with the presentation of a Private Member’s Bill on the issue.I called on the Australian Labor Party to support the Liberal National Government’s amendments to the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Act in order to put an end to frivolous legal challenges which held up major projects. An endless round of legal challenges from the extreme green eco-terrorists against projects such as Adani’s Carmichael Mine are destroying this country’s reputation and we risk sending investors elsewhere to secure the fossil fuels they will need for decades to come.We already have extensive and extremely stringent environmental protections in place and rightly so.But these environmental activists will not be satisfied until our mines are closed, the jobs have gone off shore and our regional communities are destroyed. The Australian Labor Party has an opportunity to act to support the workers of Queensland and elsewhere. With this motion today, I call on the Australian Labor Party to do the right thing for workers and jobs in North Queensland and support legislation that restores fairness and common sense.I call on members opposite to support jobs and get Australia back to work and creating the wealth that will fund the higher standards of living we all want Australians to have.
