More than $300,000 to aid bushfire recovery
CENTRAL Queenslandcommunities will get a helping hand to recover from last year’s bushfires withmore than $380,000 now approved for community recovery measures.
The grants, which are jointlyfunded by the Commonwealth-Queensland Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements(DRFA), have been welcomed by the Federal Member for Dawson George Christensen.
Many people in the CQ region went through a terrifying time late last year when more than 100 fires caused widespread devastation, including the loss of one life, numerous building and vehicles destroyed, more than half a million hectares burnt out.
People were fighting fires for days and there was a massive impact on crops, livestock and property.
This is the first round of Category C recovery grants and a second round of funding is expected to open in October.
This funding will help groups to recover and be better prepared for future events.
Approved recipients are:
Mackay Regional Council – Emergency Resilience Officer $100,000
Mackay Tourism – Agritourism forum $15,000
Reef Catchments – Bushfire management $88,600
Crediton Hall Recreation Club – Design for new hall $40,000
Finch Hatton Airstrip Assoc – Upgrades to emergency airstrip $39,183
Finch Hatton Progress Assoc – purchase of UHF radio system $19,500
Finch Hatton Progress Assoc – purchase of aviation transceivers $3,000
Greater Whitsunday Food Network Inc – Strategic Action Plan delivery $77,400
The second round of theFlexible Funding Grants program will offer an additional $4.9 million and isexpected to open in October.
The Commonwealth andQueensland Governments are contributing half each to the $12.042 millionCommunity Recovery Fund under Category C of the Disaster Recovery FundingArrangements (DRFA).
