Lone Labor MP recognises importance of mine

AUGUST 20, 2015: STRONG support for the $16.5 billion Carmichael mine project in Central Queensland from Labor’s key resources spokesperson has been hailed as a win for the workers of Central and North Queensland.Labor MP Gary Gray stated on ABC radio this morning that development of the Adani Carmichael Coal Project was in everyone’s best interests. It’s refreshing to hear a Labor MP taking the side of the workers, rather than that of the extreme green activists who seek to frustrate, delay and ultimately stop all coal mining projects.Mr Gray said development of the Carmichael mine was in the interest of the communities in the region affected by the continual delays, it was in the interest of the customer nation and customer communities in India, and it was in our national interest. It is refreshing to hear a Labor MP distancing himself from the Greens on this issue and reinforcing the vital importance of this project, and I welcome his support. The Adani Carmichael Coal Project is in the best interests of Aussie workers, particularly the Aussie workers of Central and North Queensland, and the hurdles to its development need to be removed. The Liberal National Coalition government has announced that they will repeal Section 487.2 of the EPBC Act which gives activists the ability to sabotage decisions.Groups who are not directly impacted by a project had no right to challenge that project in the courts. We have to put an end to this green lawfare, or legal warfare, because the extreme green activists will not stop using this tactic. It’s a tactic that comes straight out of their green manifesto, and it’s a tactic that is working for them, so we need to take away their ability to act against the best interests of workers, the economy and the nation as a whole.
