Last call for jobs support

28 October 2015: North Queenslanders have just two more days to return their “Postcards for Adani” to support jobs and economic growth through the Carmichael mine. The response to the campaign has been great – both with postcards coming in to the office and messages of support coming in through the website. I will be picking up postcards from other parts of the electorate tomorrow, including Bowen where support for the expansion of Abbot Point is almost universal. If anyone can’t get the postcard back to my office by midday Friday, they can use the website at www.readyforjobs.com.au to lodge their support.I am scheduled to meet with the Chairman of the Adani Group, Mr Gautam Adani on Monday, followed by an inspection of power generators in India. I want to convey to Mr Adani that our region supports his project and we are ready willing and able to get to work. I will be pushing the case for Mackay to be used as a hub for both workers and the services to build and operate the Carmichael mine. We have the infrastructure in place, the business expertise and workers have both the skills and experience Mr Adani needs for his project. The Adani Group indicated in their social impact assessment in 2012 they intended to fly workers to the mine site from one or more collection points on the coast, including Mackay, Proserpine, and Townsville. Even during the boom when workers were hard to come by, Adani’s plans were to employ only Australian workers.
