Labor just grandstanding on Harrup

NOVEMBER 15, 2018: There’s a bit of grandstanding going on by Labor today regarding the Harrup Park arena development, because the Morrison Government has already recognised its significance for the region, and approved it to go through to Stage Two of the assessment process under the Regional Growth Fund, a Coalition Government initiative. It’s now up to Harrup Park to bowl the next ball in this match, by submitting their full business case to the government. So I expect to see this ticked off well before the next election.Because of the many discussions I have had with Harrup Park CEO Matt Cielens and other board members, both here in Mackay and in Canberra, I have full confidence that they will pass the next stage with flying colours. This is a visionary plan by Harrup Park to construct a new 200-grandstand which will include new media and corporate facilities. And it’s a win for the entire city as it will provide jobs during construction and into the future, diversification for our economy and increases our sports tourism offering. This project will turn Mackay into the home of regional cricket in Australia. It will enable us to host regular Australia A games, Big Bash games, 20/20 games and Sheffield Shield matches. We’ll see international events televised from here in Mackay. It’s a massive home run for the city.
