Help for the Don
A Green Army project to improve the Don River and adjacent beaches could be underway in a matter of weeks. The umbrella project “Environmental Enhancement of Don River Delta and Adjacent Beaches” has been approved by Environment Minister Greg Hunt and it will target the Don River, Queens Beach including the Golf Club beach frontage, other Bowen beaches and the entrances to the town.
It will include works to clear noxious plants and sediment build-up, revegetate sand dunes and mangroves, restore beaches, and erect signage to explain heritage at sites of significance.
I'm also pleased to deliver double the funding for this Green Army project, due to its size and scope.“Projects generally receive $10,000 to cover materials, but the Don River Delta and Adjacent Beaches project will receive $20,000.Apart from the environmental and conservation benefits, Green Army projects also provide valuable practical training and experience for young people in the community who sign up to be Green Army workers. The Green Army is a key Liberal-National Government commitment with $525 million budgeted over four years.Find out more at: www.environment.gov.au/green-army.
