Green Army ready to dig in

A Green Army team is gearing up to undertake work at Airlie Creek and Cannonvale's foreshore as part of the Catchment to Coast Project. The work will include seed collection, propagation and planting of local native plant species, rubbish removal, and setting up irrigation systems. At the Airlie Creek site, Green Army workers will restore a public working track damaged by cyclones and at Cannonvale the team will establish native plant displays.In Mackay, another team is continuing work on the Bluewater Trail. The Green Army is a key Liberal National Government commitment and $525 million is budgeted over four years. The program supports environment and heritage conservation projects across Australia and will provide training to 15,000 young Australians by 2018.Applications for Round Two of the Green Army Programme are now open and will close on December 9 at 1pm.  To be eligible, projects must be ready to commence between January 1, 2015 and June 20, 2105.
