Grants on offer for over 65 sport programs

SEPTEMBER 24, 2018: ALL sporting and community organisations in the region are encouraged to find out more about a grants program aimed at keeping older Australians active. The Move It Aus – Better Ageing grants program has just been launched by Federal Sports Minister Bridget McKenzie to enable national sporting organisations, along with non-government and local government organisations to apply for grants of up to $2 million to deliver programs to Australians over 65.We know Australia’s population is ageing and we know how important physical activity is to combat chronic disease and keep our seniors happier and healthier.I encourage eligible organisations to build on existing programs or devise new initiatives that will improve the lives of older Australians in the region. It could be anything from aqua aerobics to organised sporting competition; the key is making sport and activity suitable to those over 65.The national $22.9million program will be managed by Sport Australia, the Australian Government’s leading agency for sport and physical activity.Applications will remain open until 31 October and more information on the Move It Aus – Better Ageing grants can be found at sportaus.gov.au/betterageing
