Grants available to protect region’s history

MARCH 8, 2016: MUSEUMS, libraries and community groups who need assistance to preserve special collections can apply for grants of up to $15,000 under the Federal Government’s Community Heritage Grants (CHG) program. The program is a boon for groups working hard to ensure treasured history collections were kept for posterity.Grants under the Community Heritage Grants program can be used to do such things as undertake preservation training, purchase archival storage or cataloguing materials or install environmental control equipment.Libraries, historical societies, museums and community groups can apply to look after materials such as artefacts, letters, diaries, maps, photographs and audio visual equipment.I encourage groups in the region to find out more about these grants which help us preserve our valuable history and get their applications in.For more information on CHG see http://www.nla.gov.au/awards-and-grants/chgThe round closes on 9 May 2016.Since 1994, $5.7 million has been awarded to community organisations throughout Australia.
