Elitists try to write off jobs in the North

MARCH 16, 2017: The elitists are trying to write off jobs for struggling unemployed Central Queenslanders and North Queenslanders with their letter to Gautam Adani opposing the Carmichael Mine.Styling themselves as ‘prominent Australians’, these elitist wankers include investment bankers, CEOs of major corporations such as Telstra, pretentious literati, professional activists and has-been celebrities.I’d love for just one of them to come down to the Larrikin Hotel in Bowen and explain to the locals there who have been suffering from a stalled economy for years on end, why they think the jobs from the Carmichael Mine and Abbot Point coal port expansion should not be created.Or perhaps they could take a walk down one of the once-busy streets in the Paget industrial area of Mackay and explain to business owners with near-empty workshops why they think the opportunities from opening up the Galilee Basin to mining should not be realised.Or perhaps they could sit down at the kitchen table with one of the 11 per cent of Townsville residents who are unemployed and explain to them where their next job is going to come from if the Carmichael mine does not go ahead. These elitists live in their capital city bubbles in their mansions with their multi-million dollar savings accounts. Life is fine for them. But in North Queensland and Central Queensland people are hurting and are desperate for jobs and business opportunities that projects such as the Carmichael Mine and Abbot Point port expansion bring. We can’t all be sports stars, we can’t all be corporate executives or novel writers or investment bankers. Some people have to work hard just to make ends meet and these elitists are doing their utmost to ensure that that work is just not available for them.I hope Mr Adani takes no notice of these well-to-do busybodies but instead listens to the strong support for the project that will no doubt be given by the Queensland Premier and local mayors during their visit to India this week. The local mayors in particular will be well placed to represent the views of those who live and want to work in the region in which the Adani mine and port will be located. After all, the average Central and North Queenslander is far more reflective of real Australia than the poison pen elitists will ever be.
