Court decision on Adani a win for businesses and job seekers

AUGUST 29, 2017: The Federal Court win for the Australian Government and Adani today means jobs will flow to places like Mackay, Bowen and Townsville in 2017.The Australian Conservation Foundation challenge against the Liberal National Government’s approval of the Adani Carmichael Coal Project has been dismissed by the Federal Court and it’s easy to see why.It was nothing but another frivolous round of legal action by the extreme green movement designed to delay the creation of jobs. However they’ve lost, and as a result, we in Central Queensland and North Queensland have won.Local businesses, particularly those engaged in the mining sector, have won and most importantly local job seekers have won.Adani Australia has officially announced today that work on the Carmichael Coal Project including construction on the mine, rail and port components, will start next year. There is always the possibility of another legal appeal by the extreme green movement as our system seems to allow them to continually delay and disrupt job-creating projects through the courts. That is why this afternoon during the Liberal National Coalition party room meeting in Canberra I asked the Prime Minister to take action against any further appeals should they arise. That request was met with enthusiasm by my Coalition colleagues and has been well and truly noted by the Prime Minister as well as the Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg.Today’s decision reaffirms that former Environment Minister Greg Hunt acted correctly and diligently in approving the Adani Carmichael Coal Project.
