Burdekin community to benefit from grant

AUGUST 19, 2016: THE Home Hill Boat Club will now be able to complete a project they’ve been planning for years to beautify the Groper Creek Park, thanks to a successful Liberal National Government Stronger Communities Programme grant of almost $8,750.I met with Home Hill Boat Club members including Commodore John Fahey, secretary Silvia Chapman and treasurer Alf Shand this week to congratulate them on the good news.Their Groper Creek Park Water Reticulation project is a major one for the club and they’re volunteering a lot of their time and resources to provide a clean water supply to Groper Creek, free of high salt content and algae problems.Stronger Communities funding of $8,750 will allow the boat club to access a cleaner water supply by installing 800 metres of poly piping, 20 taps and an electric pump to pressurize the watering system. The end result will be clean water for irrigation to keep the area clean and green all year round, as well as a better water supply for the toilet block which suffered from hard water problems. The members of the Home Hill Boat Club are to be commended for pitching in to undertake this project which will beautify the area making it more appealing for all who utilize it.Stronger Communities Programme grants provide valuable funding for small community groups to undertake capital projects with funding of between $5000 and $20,000 available.
