Budget measures good for jobs & families

MAY 11, 2015: Families will find measures to make life easier, businesses will reap a tax cut and jobs will be created in the Liberal National Government’s Budget. This Budget is about building jobs, growth and opportunities while still charting a path to debt reduction.A new Child Care Subsidy will be introduced from July 2017 which will mean families with incomes of between $65,000 and $170,000 will be around $30 a week better off. This is part of the Jobs for Families Child Care Package which will provide more options for those who want to get into work, or stay in work.Small businesses can look forward to a jobs and small business package, including a business tax cut, to stimulate growth and provide the ability to kick-start employment. We’ve also announced a Northern Australia Alliance, which will unite business groups across Northern Australia so they can work together rather than compete against each other. There is also good news for older Australians.90 per cent of pensioners will be either better off or have no change to their pensions, and the indexation of pensions will continue to be benchmarked against Male Total Average Weekly Earnings (MTAWE).In addition, I am sure everyone will welcome health measures such as $600 million to increase cancer screening for bowel cancer and cervical cancer, and the inclusion of drug treatments for melanoma and breast cancer on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, which will save some sufferers many thousands of dollars. The next stage of funding for a number of major infrastructure projects across the region as part of the Fix The Bruce policy will also be included in the Budget.
