A call for clean green projects
If you’ve got an environmental or heritage conservation task to complete, and you’d like an army to help you get the job done, consider an application for a Green Army Project.Applications for the third round of Green Army projects are now open, and community organisations, environment groups and councils are encouraged to apply. This is a key Liberal National Government election commitment and it has already been an enormously successful environmental initiative in Mackay and the Whitsundays.Round 1 teams are already out in the field improving the environment. There has been a successful round 2 application from the Don River Delta and Adjacent Beaches in Bowen, and now we’re calling for round 3 projects.[box style="1 or 2"]THE DETAILSProjects must run for 20-26 weeks and may be carried out across urban, regional and remote Australia on public or private land where there is a clear community and environmental and heritage benefit. We’re looking for projects that will make a real difference to the environment and local communities, while providing meaningful training and skills to young people. They may involve restoring and protecting native habitat, weeding, revegetation, cleaning up waterways, creeks and rivers, fencing, gully remediation, preventing erosion, protecting and conserving heritage places and values, or monitoring and surveying lands.Successful applicants will receive a team of up to nine Green Army participants, a team supervisor and project specific materials, such as seedlings, herbicide, mulch, matting and tree guards, in addition to the basic materials required to deliver a project. Service Providers, appointed by the Australian Government will work with project sponsors to deliver projects.Applications for projects under the third round of the Program are now open and will close on March 17, 2015.To be eligible, projects sponsors must have at least one project ready to begin between June 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016.For Green Army project guidelines and application forms go to: www.environment.gov.au/green-army[/box]
