Better mobile phone coverage on the way

APRIL 5, 2018: TODAY we've announced some great outcomes for mobile black spot coverage in the region under the Coalition Government’s $220 million Mobile Black Spot Program. Mount Ossa and Yalboroo, both on the Bruce Highway between Mackay and Proserpine, will receive funding for Telstra macro base stations to improve mobile phone coverage to the north and south-west of Mount Ossa,  at Yalboroo and to the north and south of Paskins Road.Further north, Alva Beach near Ayr will receive funding for an Optus macro base station to improve coverage to the area including the Alva Beach Tourist Park. These three base stations will improve safety for those travelling on the Bruce Highway as well as residents of these communities, and also provide better services for tourists to our region.106 priority locations across Australia will benefit from improved mobile phone coverage under this funding round. In previous Black Spot Funding Program rounds we've delivered improved coverage along the Bowen Developmental Road between Bowen and Collinsville, and another mobile tower will be built at Woodwark in the Whitsundays this year.More information about the program and a list of the priority locations is available at: communications.gov.au/mbsp
