$150,000 to keep Aqua Fun Park afloat

JUNE 29, 2016: I've made the pledge today that a re-elected Coalition Government will provide $150,000 to Aqua Fun Park Mackay - which is a tourism attraction which also provides jobs for young people. The enterprising operation, which will be auspiced under the Not For Profit Trinity Youth and Community Services group, will now be able to purchase their own inflatable fun park equipment so they can keep operating.Operators Amanda Pelagalli and Kirk Langford approached me some months back because they were having trouble keeping their great tourism venture afloat, literally.I told them I would see what could be done to assist them, and today I am happy to announce that a re-elected Liberal National Coalition Government will provide $150,000 in funding to purchase inflatable water park equipment as well as life jackets so this great venture can continue. The operators of the Aqua Fun Park will work with their project partners, the Not for Profit group Trinity Youth and Community Services (TYCS).TYCS have a focus on helping young people participate in society by overcoming barriers to education and employment. So this is not just about a facility that is a great tourism attraction for our region, even drawing visitors from the Whitsundays to Mackay for a day of fun.But it will also provide casual employment and associated support for as many as 50 young people in our city, at a time when jobs for our kids are hard to find. The facility at Andergrove Lakes attracted a lot of community support over the summer months, and people offering services such as these should be encouraged.
